December 2007 visit to Calvary Baptist ChurchDecember 2007 Visit to Trinity Baptist ChurchTrinity is an interesting place. It's a seniors church and has no children's or youth ministries. But it's an exciting place filled with lots of energy for the Lord. It's always a blessing to see Bill and Darlene Millican. We got to visit with them in June at the Annual Meeting too. I had lots of time to share with the mission committee and then in the service and then in the fellowship hall- more than 2 hours in all. I think they were able to really get a full grasp of our ministry. Visit to St. Petersburg Community ChurchSPCC had moved to a new location since my last visit. This new location has a lot more breathing space- and room to grow. We had a nice meal together in the fellowship hall where I was able to get to know some folks better. Pastor Randall told me that there was a new momentum building in the church. May their light grow bright in their neighborhood. Again, I was encouraged by the people and hope that I was able to bless them in return. Visit to Southgate Baptist ChurchSouthgate Baptist Church is in St. Croix, one of the US Virgin Islands. It was my first visit ever. To me the island felt a bit like Thailand, but not as hot. The water was the most amazing blue - in Thailand it's green. It definitely felt like a foreign country to me. They were very gracious to me. I was the second missionary ever to visit their church. Needless to say, they made a big deal about it. Many thanks to Pastor Ed who gave me a tour around the island. It was fun to see him invite nearly everyone we met, whether at the bakery, the shop keepers or even tourists, to come and hear my message. A very special thanks to Doug and Isabel for hosting me at their house. The view from their house is amazing. One morning I was able to help out at their Lighthouse mission, a ministry to the down and out and children. God has really blessed this ministry located in the worst part of Christiansted. Much of the church volunteers there. Other churches are getting involved. Even the community is taking notice of this good work. PTL! Visit to Crystal Cove Community ChurchI was a little surprised when I arrived form my visit and discovered that I was giving the main message. No worries however, I shared the vision that God has given me for work in Cambodia and gave him praise for what he has been doing there. I can't put my finger on it, but there's something I really like about my Florida church visits. As usual, it was a tremendous blessing to be with friends. I always marvel at how I can go anywhere in the world and be with family in Christ Jesus. It was interesting to learn that Crystal Cove has their own little barnyard in the back with donkeys and a camel. They have live animal services for Christmas and Easter every year. They also have school kids come out on a regular basis. November 2007 Visit to Horizons Community ChurchHorizons marked my final visit to the Phoenix area this time around. Again, it was a pleasure to see Pastor Tony and meet some folks from the church. One big surprise was seeing an old friend, Marlene, from seminary that I had lost touch with and didn't even know she was in Phoenix. I was encouraged to see the church meeting in their own building now; last time I visited they were still in a local high school. The church had also doubled in size since then. It's good to see God working and bring unchurched people to himself. PTL! It was also special to have my good friend Clark along for company. Clark was a huge help with driving and just made the trip more fun for me (Phoenix is about a 6 hour drive from San Diego). Clark also doubled as my photographer. October 2007 Visit to Sun Valley Community Church
Again, God was gracious in renewing key relationships. I want to thank Matt Swartz and Dennis McMains for taking so much time to meet with me. Also for Seth to find some time as well. I could tell they had a genuine interest in getting to know me and my vision for Cambodia. I want to thank my friend Scott Eckert for coming along to help me with the drive to Phoenix. It was really nice to have a friend along. And it was a huge help. Scott is part of my Sending Team in San Diego. I was greatly encouraged when Matt and Dennis told me that they had been in contact with Cornerstone and were already talking dates to visit Cambodia next year on joint vision trip with intentions to sponsor a village school house. Visit to Cornerstone Christian Fellowship
I have to say that God certainly honored my desire to strengthen ties-with much assistance from Marty McIntire. Thank you Marty for introducing me to everyone along the way. I was very encouraged by how people received me and my vision for Cambodia. October 2007 Visit to Chinese Christian Church of Thousand Oaks
October 2007 Visit to Mt. View Community ChurchThough many men were absent due to the church men's retreat, I still had a tremendous visit with my friends at Mt. View. I was privileged to share the main message in both morning services. Some even remembered me from 5 years ago-awesome. I was excited by their interest in sponsoring a school for the Village School House program. Perhaps God will lead them to do so. I've had tremendously positive responses to the program everywhere I go, but God hasn't yet raised up a partner to "adopt a village". I expect that he will. I'm hoping for 2 or 3 sponsors in the next couple of years. Overall I was very encouraged by my visit. They even sent me off with a very generous offering for the new worship CD. Please say a prayer for this church as they are in the midst of searching for a new pastor. September 2007 Visit to Canyon View Mission Home GroupIt's always wonderful to be with a group of people whose sole motivation for gathering is to focus and pray for missions. This is the bi-weekly mission home group of Canyon View Christian Fellowship in San Diego. I have a special connection with this church. 20 years ago, it was my first church, although it had a different name, was 25 times smaller and met in a different part of the city, but the same pastor. Pastor Mike discipled me as a young Christian and encouraged me to attend Bethel Seminary. Canyon View is still the sending church of one of my closest buddies, Gregg Burgess, who also serves God in Phnom Penh. It means a lot to me to have such a close friend near-by. Again, the message and vision God has given to me stirred in their hearts and imaginations. They were eager to learn about Cambodia, especially since they support 2 missionary families there. Visit to Harvest Community ChurchThe folks at Harvest were very excited for my visit and showed tremendous interest. Several people even talked of making trips to Cambodia afterwards, which was encouraging for me. Especially Joseph and Bea, long time supporters, who seemed quite insistent that they bring their 4 little ones to Cambodia to encourage us and give their children a sense of what's important in life. God bless them. There's even some talk of Jerry, the worship leader, coming to Cambodia during his sabbatical next year to train local Cambodian worship leaders. Pray for him as he seeks God in this matter. Visiting Harvest gave me a special opportunity to thank them in person for providing a new moto for Sina when hers was stolen. She has been extremely appreciative. It was also special for me to visit with pastor Curtis Lowe, a personal friend for over 12 years. September 2007 Visit to Grace Community ChurchI was moved by the family atmosphere of Grace Community Church. It was so much fun to watch them interact with each other with such love and appreciation. The best part for me was that they included me into their family. They really went out of their way to include mission themes throughout the service. What a great place to worship God! I pray the folks of Garden Grove flock to experience God's grace at Grace. I was also encouraged by their generosity toward our ministry and family. This was the first church to have any tangible interest in the new Village School House program. However, I'm still looking to fully fund 2 or 3 village school houses. September 2007 Visit to Woodbridge Community ChurchMy visit to Woodbridge was a bit touch-and-go with some last minute planning, but in the end it turned out to be a great visit. I was able to share my video and ministry briefly during a Sunday school class and the pastor gave me a few extra minutes during the service-thanks pastor Frank. There was a nice cake reception afterwards where I was able to connect individually with folks. Afterwards, I had a nice lunch with some of the mission committee at a near-by country club (golf not included). A big thank you to Cy Young for helping it all work out. August 2007 Visit to Bethany Baptist ChurchAnother great and encouraging church visit. It's been a joy to reconnect with our supporting churches and see folks I haven't seen in many years. It's also a pleasure to meet new folks and share the vision that God's given us for building up His kingdom in Cambodia. God gave me a very attentive audience. I was given a great opportunity to share about our work in Cambodia and answer questions. That's been the format as most visits and it's been working very nicely. Afterwards, about 20 people took me out to some great Mexican food. I want to give a special thanks to the Graves for hosting me. August 2007 Visit to College Avenue Baptist ChurchA sort of homecoming since CABC is our home sending church. Paul first got involved with CABC in 1988 as the church printer. We were briefly presented in both services and had an extended time for sharing afterwards in the fireside room. It was extra special to have all four of us here, even the kids stood up front so people could see us. It was wonderful to see so many friends that we haven't seen in so many years. Some told us that they pray for us everyday. Wow! It's incredible to think that there are those loving saints that pray for you everyday. Our Sending Team was on hand to help host the audience and serve food. They did an awesome job as usual. We are so blessed by them. We thank God for our friends and supporters at CABC whom we've know most of our Christian lives. August 2007 Visit to Scripps Mesa Bible ChurchIt seems that every Sunday is a wonderful blessing for me. My visit to SMBC was no exception. I enjoyed meeting Pastor Kevin for the first time and reconnecting with some others that I hadn't seen in 5 years. One of the coolest things that happened was they brought out some large blow-ups of some photos that I had sent a couple of years earlier for a mission conference. Now I have five giant pictures of my ministry to take on my church visits. What an awesome display! Thanks SMBC. August 2007 Mission HouseYesterday, we moved into the mission house at our home church of College Avenue Baptist Church in San Diego. It's always a blessing to have a place to stay. We praise God for his faithfulness. We enjoyed our several weeks with the Shorts so much that we almost didn't want to move. God is so good to us. Visit to Life Spring Community ChurchAnother church visit, another blessing. Traveling to churches is more than offset by the wonderful time I have seeing old friends and making new ones. This week gave a great opportunity to share interview style in two services with Pastor Tony. We had lots of time to get very involved. A number of people expressed some interest in exploring short-term opportunities in Cambodia. God is stirring in some hearts at Life Spring. The church was very generous with an offering toward the new CD project. All in all, it was a very encouraging visit. July 2007 Visit to Lakewood Family ChurchThis past Sunday I had a splendidly encouraging visit to the new and improved Lakewood Family Church An interesting thing happened afterwards regarding my testimony of reading the gospel of Matthew in a green Bible that I bought at a local bookstore. I had completely forgotten what kind of Bible it was or what version. A man came up with the very same Bible. I was astonished to see it. After a good long look, I confirmed that it was the Bible I had read that helped lead me to salvation twenty years ago. It was a Berkley version. |
