    Summer Music Ministry

Next week Jerry Low will arrive as our first BGC short-term worker. I'm very excited. Jerry is the worship leader at Harvest Community Church in Irvine, CA. He will be doing various sorts of music related ministries to encourage and train Cambodia's young worship team members.

    Worship Workshop: July 14-25
A two-week practical workshop for anyone involved in worship: singers, musicians and maybe even dancers. He'll focus on the biblical basis for worship and then on practical, hands-on guidance.

    Guitar and Keyboard Lessons
Beginning June 30, Jerry will be teaching beginner and intermediate guitar and keyboard lessons every afternoon. Lessons will continue through the end of July.

    Preaching and Coaching
Jerry will also have opportunities to share with some churches in the provinces about worship. In addition, he will have a chance to coach singers at the studio as they record our new worship CD.

Please pray for his safe travel and his time of service here. Also, for the Khmer students that attend. Pray that God will guide the entire venture and bless it according to His will. His wife and daughters may join him in mid-July.

    Still Looking For A Teacher

I'm still hoping for someone to come and teach English next year at the Bible College, especially since I won't be here because we'll be on home assignment. The school informed me that housing will be available for either a male or female teacher, but they can't handle a couple. It's not mandatory to live on campus, but it may be preferable.

There is also a need for a teacher during the summer break in July and August. It would be great if someone could come for the summer and stay through the school year. In fact, I think we could handle a small team of teachers for the summer session. It's about 2 months.

    Be a Musicianary

If you have musical talents, training and skills and feel that you have what it takes to pass along what you know to others, you could be monstrously powerful in building up the church here in Cambodia. Trained musical people are few and far between. In the church, they are even fewer and farther between. Our local church is among the churches with "cutting edge" worship, yet our people are still very untrained. Imaging having 20 eager young people to coach in all areas of music: keyboard, guitar, drums, percussion, vocals, notation, reading music, etc., etc. You don't have to be an expert in all these areas. That's just an example of how much you are needed. You would be able to work with these young people on a daily basis, either in group lessons or one-on-one. Whatever works best. Lessons could be semi-formal or casual. Many of them speak a good amount of English. So fear not. Almost any time you could give would be of value, but to have a greater impact, three months to a year would be ideal. In that time, you could also host occasional workshops for the wider church community. This opportunity would be great for a single person or couple.

If you want to come as a team, that would be great too. A team could come for a week or two and conduct a music workshop. Any training our young musicians can get will reap eternal rewards.

Urgent Need for an English Teacher

We have an urgent need for an English teacher at the Bible College to fill a gap for few months when another teacher will be leaving Cambodia to get married. The need is from the last week of October 2006 to the first week of February 2007. For this opportunity to serve you don't need to be a native English speaker, but you must speak fluently. All the materials are already prepared. We even have American speaking CD's for you to use. You don't need to have any teaching experience. However, you should be a mature Christian.

I'm not sure of the costs right now, but you would be responsible to pay for your airfare, visa and support yourself while you are here. We are unable to pay you and provide any real services. You should look into your how your own health insurance might cover you. I would prefer if someone would be sent through the BGC short-term program. They may be able to cover a lot of the bases for you. I'm not sure if they can move quickly enough to meet this need, but please contact them as a good place to start - 1-800-323-4215.

This is a terrific opportunity to get your feet wet in missions or serve God in an out-of-the-way corner of the world.

On a related note, the Bible College is in the midst of a complete overhaul to its academic system: adding a 4th year
bachelor degree, moving to a semester system, moving to majors/minors, etc. This will likely result in an increased need for reliable English teachers. Until now, finding someone to teach English has been a scramble every year. But in the new system English will take on a much more formal role and we will need some committed people to build upon. This means it would be great to have teachers commit to coming to teach for a year or two. There may or may not be an opportunity for a teacher to live on campus - this would be an added bonus. Again, I would recommend being sent via the BGC short-term program for this assignment. [I know Cambodia's really far away and it seems like it takes forever to get here, but you get over that in a few days. It's also a place where God is really working in awesome ways. Don't' let distance stand in your way.]
